The analyses found on this site are products of the Geophysics Branch, Naval Air Systems Weapons Division,PointMugu, California.
The blue vectors in the first plot represent the surface wind flow in the offshore marine layer and the adjacent basins of Southern California. The wind field is derived by interpolating the hourly wind observations taken at the stations denoted by the yellow circles. The stations denoted by the white circles are not included in the interpolation analysis as they are considered unrepresentative of the marine layer or low level basin flow due to their location or elevation. Care should be taken in using these analyses as there is no error checking or quality control of the data.
The observational data is provided by the following organizations via the internet or by modem:
Charts for the previous 72 hours are also available.
The plotting and interpolation were performed using the Tecplot software package.
