Front End Developer
Us (WeatherFlow):

We operate the largest private marine weather network in North America and provide weather observations and forecasts to everyone from kitesurfers to the Department of Defense. We are in need of a talented and innovative front end developer to create unique applications for our diverse clients. WeatherFlow supports a growing set of branded web and mobile applications and we are looking for a motivated developer whose work with have an immediate impact on our working products.
You:
We’re looking for a versatile developer who’s ready to influence the way people experience Weather – someone who isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of a platform and loves crafting applications with users in mind. If you are a champion of Web Standards, are versed in Object Oriented JavaScript and pride yourself on writing maintainable code we want you on our team!
The Position:

Creation: You will be responsible for consuming our web service API (Weather Engine) to create front end applications. You will write code that can be used across all of our branded applications.

Collaboration: We have a resident genius, a designer, meteorologist, a server administrator, a mobile developer and one really quiet back end developer. You’ll be working with a pretty cool team of people as you enhance our customer facing applications.

Organization: You’ll need to keep everyone informed and coordinate projects with realistic and organized timelines. Strong communication skills that aid in reviewing and monitoring project schedules is a must.
Stuff you should probably know how to do:

Expert knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery, JSON and XML

Experience with ASP.NET, VB.NET, PHP, or other web application platforms

A working knowledge of HTML5/CSS3 and an understanding of how to utilize it across browsers

A solid understanding of cross-browser/platform issues and solutions.

Bonus points for Google Maps API experience

Real world experience interacting with a JSON RESTful interface is a plus

Experience with version control software. Git is our preferred VCS.

Extra credit for experience creating WordPress or Drupal plugins

Self-motivated and able to work well under minimal supervision

Experience with a wind related activity would be cool! But not required.

Part-Time Customer Service Specialist

We operate the largest private marine weather network in North America and provide weather observations and forecasts to everyone from kitesurfers to the National Weather Service. WeatherFlow supports a growing set of branded web and mobile applications and as such the need for customer support continues to grow. Hence, we are looking for a self-motivated people person to supplement our existing customer support team.
You:
We’re looking for a charming, friendly and reliable part-time customer support specialist who is able to work independently. If you are a people person and are ready to work diligently to handle customer service inquiries we want you on our team!
The Position:
- Respond: You will be responsible for responding to the customer service inquiries of WeatherFlow subscribers. This will vary from industry professional clients, such as the USCG, to anonymous users whose names we don’t even know. But all deserve top-notch assistance.
- Reassure: At times, users of our services are befuddled by the diversity of products we offer. Hence, you’ll be tasked with helping users understand which product is best for them and how they can best use it.
- Redirect: Some inquiries are best handled by someone else within WeatherFlow. Being able to recognize when another WeatherFlow team member should handle an inquiry is an important part of the job.
Stuff you should probably know how to do:
- Familiar with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Familiar with various web browsers
- Familiar with Skype and able to use it for phone calls as needed
- Able to follow the guidelines of proper etiquette despite occasionally assisting disgruntled individuals (a.k.a. thick skin)
- Able to tell someone to take a hike in such a charming way that they thank you for it
- Able to work a few hours each day (ideally 4 hours/day Monday to Friday)
- Self-motivated and able to work reliably under minimal supervision
Stuff that would be beneficial to know:
- Familiar with ZenDesk
- Familiar with wind-related sports (sailing, fishing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, etc.)
- Familiar with meteorology
